Telecoms transmission

Over the years telecoms requirements have expanded and the requirement for expansion in both quantity and quality has been the developing factor in telecommunications transmission systems. The movement from analogue to digital transmission has opened the path to transmission of huge amounts of data over longer distances. Fiber optic has been the leading edge of this technology and many manufacturers have been developing their carrier equipment to meet this demand. Movement from PDH to SDH and now DWDM technology has become the standard.

Sigma Technical Services is continuously investing in keeping up with this technology and has its in-house capabilities to design, implement, commission and maintain DWDM system with close partnership with CISCO Optical Systems, the latest is the CISCO 15454 family of optical transmission systems.

Radio communications

Radio Communication systems provide 2-way wireless voice communication solutions which can be used in a variety of applications such as public safety, emergency services, transport and for in-house communication systems on large plants or sites.

There are various types of systems which are scalable from a simple point to point to a country-wide system. The options available include Analogue, Digital and Trunk Systems and they are available in wide range of operating frequencies ranging from HF, VHF & UHF.

Microwave communications

Microwaves are widely used for point-to-point communications because their small wavelength allows conveniently sized antennas to direct them in narrow beams, which can be pointed directly at the receiving antenna. This allows nearby microwave equipment to use the same frequencies without interfering with each other, as lower frequency radio waves do.

Line of sight between point-to-point communications is very important to prevent any interference due to tall buildings and blockages, thus specialist experts are usually needed to engage for preliminary site surveys.

In addition to site surveys, Sigma Technical Services can offer a full range of Microwave Radio System for PDH and SDH networks. We can also provide for the complete spectrum of turnkey Microwave design, installation and project management services as well as a complete range of Microwave products that provide solutions for data, video and audio transmission with frequencies ranging from 3.5GHz, 5.8GHz, 6GHz, 7-8GHz, 13GHz, 15GHz, 18GHz, 23 GHz, 26 GHz and up to 60GHz.

Timecode distribution systems

Timecode systems were developed to be used as a main source for event synchronization, applications included film making, TV broadcast, and has been extended to the utilities sector such as power generation and distribution to include instrumentation in the OIL & GAS sector. The most up to date systems derive the time code signals from a GPS source and generate the required signal protocol that the user requires such as IRIG-B, SMPTE, NEAMA, NTP etc.

In addition to its generic uses, Sigma has also developed a modular distribution system for these signals to cover oil production vessels, oil rigs, oil platforms and power generation plants. The solution allows for easy deployment with high level of scalability. Each system is tailored to the exact client requirements relative to the facility and its application.

Satellite solutions

A reliable communication system is an essential requirement for land-marine fixed and mobile voice and data applications. Satellite communication can be utilized as the main or a backup system for any project or operations.

Current available technologies such as Inmarsat, Iridium, Thuraya, fixed VSAT stations can be implemented to provide a bespoke system to suit any project or operational requirements.

Sigma’s engineers can provide complete end to end solutions choosing the most suitable satellite communications and related infrastructure to deliver fully operational integrated solution.

Portable SCADA systems

SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is a type of industrial control system which monitors and controls industrial processes for multiple sites.

Sigma technical services using our in-house design engineering capabilities have successfully developed a small scale system with portable display and control unit offering flexible mobility and access for the in-field operator. Our designs exploit the industry standard OPTO22 environment which offers a fully expandable modular system to encompass the different acquisition and control requirements.
